Expansion and Collapse
A limited edition publication, installation, and print series exploring processes of acquiring, organising and displaying visual research. Shown at; MMX, RCA, 2010; Display, Tim Pritchard Gallery, London, 2010; and Bolton Street, London, 2010. Within this project Fay Nicolson and Oliver Smith trace relationships between traditional sites for storing information (libraries, archives and shelving systems) and new digital, networked and compressed sites for accessing ‘knowledge', making connections between schematic and architectural, real and hypothetical spaces. In Expansion and Collapse the display structure determines the format and presents the content of the publication; creating a loop in structure and meaning.
